MARLBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ – A 70-year-old Totowa woman was struck and killed Saturday morning while attempting to cross Route 9 in Marlboro Township, authorities said.
The crash happened around 7:33 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Route 9 and County Route 520.
Police said the woman was crossing from the southbound to the northbound side of the highway when she was hit by a Honda CR-V.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Victim identified as Sherril Sakas
Officials identified the victim as Sherril Sakas, 70, of Totowa. The male driver of the Honda CR-V remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Investigation ongoing with multiple agencies
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, along with the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Marlboro Township Police Department, continues to investigate the fatal crash.
Authorities have not filed any charges or issued summonses in connection with the incident.
