Towson University Student Secures $125,000 Lottery Win

May 23, 2024

TOWSON, MD—A Towson University student, referred to as “Lucky Tiger,” has won a $125,000 prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Big Spin Wheel. This significant win marks her as the third of eight potential wheel-spin prize winners from the recently launched BIG SPIN scratch-off game.

On May 20, the 21-year-old Harford County resident bought a lottery ticket at Edgewood Convenience Store as part of a gift for her boyfriend’s graduation. Although it was an infrequent purchase for her, the scratch-off ticket turned out to be incredibly fortunate. Upon scratching the ticket at home, she discovered a “SPIN” symbol, which required her to visit the Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.

Accompanied virtually by her mother via FaceTime, “Lucky Tiger” participated in the Big Spin event at the Lottery’s Winner’s Circle room in Baltimore on Tuesday. The suspenseful spin resulted in a $125,000 win as the wheel finally halted. This came just in time for another celebration—the college graduation of her boyfriend later that day.

The BIG SPIN game, which debuted on April 22, offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 by spinning a 6-foot-tall wheel. Besides “Lucky Tiger,” the game has already awarded $100,000 to a Baltimore mother on May 6 and $90,000 to a Baltimore County Vietnam veteran on May 21. Five more top wheel-spin prizes remain up for grabs, along with thousands of instant-win prizes.

Reflecting on her windfall, “Lucky Tiger” expressed her intention to allocate most of the prize money towards her tuition. Edgewood Convenience Store, where the winning ticket was purchased, will receive a $1,000 bonus for their role in selling the ticket.
