Tractor-trailer rollover on New York Thruway injures two, spills steel beams

FLORIDA, N.Y. — A tractor-trailer carrying steel beams overturned on the New York State Thruway near Exit 27, leaving two people seriously injured, New York State Police said Wednesday.

The crash occurred at about 4:07 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes. Investigators determined that the tractor-trailer was traveling in the left lane when it veered onto the left shoulder and rolled over, spilling its cargo onto the median.

Both the driver and a passenger were airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The incident caused significant traffic delays as crews worked to clear the wreckage and remove the spilled steel beams.
