Traffic Alert: Route 37 Bridge Lane Closures Will Last Several Weeks

April 16, 2023

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced that repairs on the Route 37 westbound/Tunney Bridge in Toms River, Ocean County are set to commence on Monday, April 17. According to a statement released by the NJDOT, the left lane of the route will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., while the center lane may be closed as necessary during the same time period. The repair work is expected to continue from Monday to Thursday for several weeks.

This bridge repair project is part of a $9.6 million Drawbridge Preventative Maintenance Contract, aimed at ensuring the safety and longevity of bridges across the state. While the repairs are ongoing, drivers on Route 37 westbound/Tunney Bridge are advised to drive slowly, exercise caution, and expect delays.

However, Route 37 eastbound/Mathis Bridge traffic will not be impacted by this project.

Variable messaging signs will be used to notify drivers of any changes to the traffic pattern due to the repair work. The NJDOT cautions that the timing of the repairs is subject to change due to weather or other factors, and drivers should check NJDOT’s traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for updates on the ongoing construction.

Furthermore, the NJDOT urges drivers to follow them on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT or on their Facebook page for further news and updates on the repair work.
