A Thursday evening stop near State Street and Veeder Avenue ended with a handgun recovered and two men facing felony weapons charges
SCHENECTADY, NY – A traffic stop at a Schenectady intersection Thursday evening ended with officers recovering a handgun and arresting two men on felony weapons charges, with one suspect also accused of possessing a controlled substance.
Officers assigned to the Schenectady Police Department’s Focus Patrol Unit conducted the stop at approximately 6:30 p.m. near State Street and Veeder Avenue.
Police said the traffic stop resulted in the recovery of a handgun.
Jaheim J. Garland, 25, of Troy, and Neylon R. Wagner, 24, of Schenectady, were arrested.
Garland was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony, and criminal possession of a defaced weapon, a Class D felony.
He was also charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance and received two traffic summonses.
Wagner was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a defaced weapon. He also received one traffic summons.
Police did not provide additional information about the handgun, the alleged controlled substance or what prompted officers to search for and recover the weapon.
The department’s initial announcement also did not provide information about arraignments or custody status for the two defendants.
The charges are accusations, and Garland and Wagner are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
