WASHINGTON, DC-President Donald Trump on Thursday retaliated against Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her attempted obstructionism of the President’s State of the Union Speech. Pelosi fired off a letter to the President earlier in the week demanding he either deliver his address in writing instead, rescinding her invitation to speak before Congress.
“The U.S. Secret Service was designated as the lead federal agency responsible for coordinating, planning, exercising, and implementing security for National Special Security Events by Public Law 106-544, December 19, 2000. However, both the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security have not been funded for 26 days now – with critical departments hamstrung by furloughs,” Pelosi said, despite not having consulted the Secret Service prior.
Secret Service officials rejected the notion that the agency would not be able to carry out its mission.
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th,” the elderly stateswoman quipped.
The Secret Service told NBC News that it’s “no fail mission” that will go on as planned.
On Thursday, moments before Nancy Pelosi was to lead a delegation of politicos to Afghanistan on a 7 day public relations tour, President Trump responded to Pelosi with a letter of his own.
“You’re Grounded!”
Trump canceled Pelosi’s government funded flight, leaving her minions on a bus driving in circles around Washington, D.C. as it prepared to depart on its journey.
Dear Madame Speaker:
Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.
I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally receive the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!
