Two Arrested in Cumberland for Armed Robbery and Assault

CUMBERLAND, MD – The Cumberland Police Department arrested Garry Lee Legeer III, 28, of Cumberland, and Xavier Zhane Barger, 21, of Ellerslie, on July 9, 2024. Both men were apprehended on active arrest warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court in connection with an incident on July 4.

Police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Mary St. on July 4 following a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with multiple witnesses and a male victim. It was reported that an altercation occurred in an alley near the home, during which Legeer and Barger allegedly assaulted the male victim and stole money from his pocket. The victim’s cell phone was also reportedly destroyed during the incident.

Legeer and Barger were taken before a District Court Commissioner for initial appearances and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Legeer is held on a $5,000 bond, while Barger is held on a temporary commitment.
