Two elderly pedestrians struck and killed on Fischer Boulevard in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A 72-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were fatally struck by a car Tuesday night while crossing Fischer Boulevard, according to police.

Craig Parson and Debra Wright, both of Toms River, were attempting to cross the highway from east to west at approximately 6:55 p.m. when they were hit by a 2021 Toyota Corolla in the right lane just north of Hazelwood Road, Toms River Police Lt. Ron Sermarini said.

The driver, identified as Sholto Roach of Toms River, remained at the scene. Roach was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, Sermarini said.

Parson and Wright were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where they died from their injuries.

Authorities have not announced any charges as the investigation into the fatal crash continues.
