Two men shot within an hour in separate Philadelphia incidents, one critical

Philadelphia police are probing two afternoon shootings that left one man critical and another hospitalized, with one person of interest detained.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred less than an hour apart on Friday afternoon in different parts of the city, leaving one man critically wounded and another hospitalized in stable condition.

The first incident took place around 4:07 p.m. on the 4200 block of Salem Street in the city’s 15th District. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported by police to Temple University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made in the case, and detectives have not identified a motive. The scene is being held as the investigation continues.

Shortly afterward, at approximately 4:48 p.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to a separate shooting on the 1500 block of South Broad Street. In that incident, an adult male was shot in the buttocks and taken by police to Jefferson Hospital – Center City. He is currently listed in stable condition.

Police confirmed that a person of interest is in custody in connection with the South Broad Street shooting. No charges have been announced as of Friday evening.


Investigators working to determine motives as city sees back-to-back shootings

Authorities have not indicated whether the two incidents are related. Both crime scenes were secured by officers as forensic teams collected evidence and canvassed for surveillance footage and witnesses.

The 15th District shooting, which left the victim in critical condition, occurred in a residential neighborhood, while the South Broad Street incident unfolded in a more commercial section of the city.

Investigations remain active in both cases. No identities have been released for the victims or the individual currently in custody.
