HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Two motorcyclists were seriously injured Friday afternoon after their bikes collided on Weymouth Road in Hamilton Township, police said.
Officers were called to Weymouth Road near the Watering Hole at about 4:09 p.m. Investigators identified the riders as Darryl Burk, 60, of Galloway, and Ronald Vignali, 61, of Mays Landing.
Both men were traveling east on Weymouth Road when their motorcycles accidentally sideswiped each other, according to the preliminary investigation. The impact caused both riders to crash.
Both Riders Flown to Atlantic City Hospital
Burk and Vignali suffered serious injuries.
Emergency crews treated the men at the scene before medical helicopters transported both to AtlantiCare Atlantic City Division for further treatment.
Police did not provide additional information about their conditions Friday night.
The crash brought a large emergency response to the area. Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics responded along with firefighters from Mays Landing Fire Department, Weymouth Fire Company and Laureldale Fire Rescue.
Weymouth Road was closed between Route 606 and Mizpah Road for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked and police investigated.
Hamilton Police Seek Witnesses to Motorcycle Crash
The Township of Hamilton Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation.
Police described the collision as an accidental sideswipe in their preliminary account but did not release additional details about what caused the motorcycles to come into contact.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact Officer Laboy or Officer Bittmann with the Traffic Unit at 609-625-2700.
The crash occurred in Atlantic County, between Mays Landing and the Weymouth area. Both riders are local residents, with Burk from neighboring Galloway and Vignali from Mays Landing.
No charges or citations were announced in the initial police report.
