Two people were injured in a shooting Thursday night near Front Street in Perth Amboy, and police say both victims are expected to recover.

According to the Perth Amboy Police Department, a uniformed officer working in the area of 178 Front Street at approximately 10:05 p.m. Thursday responded immediately after hearing a nearby disturbance. When the officer arrived, a man and a woman, both believed to be in their 40s, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Victims hospitalized, investigation ongoing

Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and took over patient care.

Police said both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.

Preliminary findings indicate the shooting was not a random act and that the individuals involved knew one another, according to investigators.
