New Jersey U.S. Senator Robert Menendez and his wife have been indicted on serious bribery and extortion charges and many in his own Democrat party are calling for his resignation.
Except for one, fellow U.S. Senator Cory Booker.
Menendez has rejected calls for his resignation, even saying he is being targeted for being Latino.
“It is not lost on me how quickly some are rushing to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat. I am not going anywhere.,” he said.
New Jersey State Senator Michael Testa said it has nothing to do with his heritage and more to do with the serious allegations and facts presented in the case against him.
“Basically, the entire Democrat party in NJ has made up their mind about Menendez… But, we’ve yet to hear a word from his partner in the Senate, Spartacus… What’s the holdup?” asked Republican State Senator Michael Testa. “I’m all for the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law… But, when your whole party turns their back on you, and your response is to play into pure nonsensical identity politics.”
Senator Booker, a close ally of Menendez has remained silent on the matter.
