Police say the delivery driver was assaulted at an intersection before one suspect rode away on the victim’s moped.
NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying three suspects accused of assaulting an Uber Eats delivery driver before stealing his moped during a late-night carjacking earlier this month.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred at about 11:06 p.m. on June 14 at the intersection of South Orange Avenue and South Munn Avenue.
Police said the victim was making an Uber Eats delivery on a black Zenen moped when he stopped at a traffic light. One of the three suspects approached him and gestured as though he had a weapon in his waistband before pushing the victim off the moped.
Investigators said the victim fell to the ground, where the two other suspects assaulted him.
During the attack, the first suspect rode away eastbound on the stolen moped, which bears New Jersey registration 6AWN1.
Police described the first suspect as wearing a gray sweater and dark-colored sweatpants. The second suspect was wearing a dark gray sweater and dark-colored sweatpants, while the third suspect was dressed entirely in black clothing.
The Newark Department of Public Safety released images of the suspects and is asking anyone with information about their identities to contact the Police Division’s Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the Newark Police Division’s website.
