Prosecutors say Michael Foster, 58, waited for Julia Anderson to finish her shift before approaching her car and firing multiple shots following a dispute over the Mount Vernon home where they both lived
BRONX, NY – A Mount Vernon man allegedly waited outside his niece’s Bronx workplace late at night before walking up to her car and shooting her multiple times, killing the woman following a long-running family dispute over ownership of the house where they both lived, prosecutors said.
Michael Foster, 58, has been indicted on second-degree murder and other related charges in the July 13 killing of his niece, Julia Anderson, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Foster was arraigned Wednesday before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Alvin Yearwood and remains remanded.
Prosecutors said Anderson had just finished her work shift and was sitting inside her vehicle near Murdock Avenue and Nereid Avenue at approximately 11:56 p.m.
She was preparing to drive home when Foster, who prosecutors allege had been lying in wait, approached the vehicle from the passenger side.
Foster allegedly fired multiple shots at Anderson while she was inside the car.
Anderson was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Foster was arrested July 15, two days after the killing.
Investigators determined Foster and Anderson had been quarreling for some time over ownership of a house on Bell Avenue in Mount Vernon, according to prosecutors.
The uncle and niece both lived at the property.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office said Foster was indicted on second-degree murder and other related charges but did not identify the additional counts in its announcement.
Foster is due back in court Nov. 12.
The case is being prosecuted by the Bronx District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau. NYPD detectives Frank Delgado and Patrick Horkan were among those credited for their work on the investigation.
The charges are accusations. Foster is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
