November 26, 2024

UTICA, N.Y. — A Utica man has been arrested and charged after allegedly robbing a convenience store at gunpoint late Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to the store on the 900 block of Albany Street around 11:05 p.m. on November 24 following reports of an armed robbery. According to store employees, a male suspect entered the store, brandished a handgun, and demanded money. He fled with cash and other property.

Store employees told police they believed the suspect was someone who lived nearby. Using this information and surveillance footage, officers tracked the suspect to his residence, where he was detained while police obtained a search warrant.

The search of the residence yielded a loaded 9mm handgun and the stolen cash, police said. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Ulysses Taylor, was arrested and charged with several offenses, including first-degree robbery, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not released additional details at this time.

Authorities credit quick investigative work and surveillance footage in securing the arrest.
