Utica man charged in stabbing incident that left girlfriend injured

October 27, 2025

Utica, NY A 41-year-old man is facing charges following a stabbing incident that occurred in the 1300 block of Genesee Street. Police and fire units arrived at approximately 4:30 PM after a 911 call reported that a male had stabbed his girlfriend.

Upon arrival, officers found the male standing on the sidewalk with a blood-covered knife. He was detained after dropping the weapon and placing his hands in the air.

Officers entered the residence and discovered a female suffering from multiple stab wounds to her head, neck, and body. She was transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment and her injuries were later deemed non-life threatening.

Investigators determined that an argument between the couple led to the knife changing hands, resulting in the woman’s injuries. Craig Powers has been charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
