Utica Mourns Loss of 19-Year-Old Mother Gunned Down in Night of Violence

UTICA, N.Y. — A 19-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured during a series of violent incidents in the early hours of Friday, according to the Utica Police Department. Authorities are investigating whether the incidents, which occurred at three separate locations, are connected.

On November, 7th, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers and firefighters responded to a call at 822 South Street, where a man had been shot in the stomach. Police say the suspect, wearing a mask, entered the store and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to Wynn Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and is in critical but stable condition.

While investigating that shooting, police received a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire on Faxton Street around 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds to his back and a woman with wounds to her chest. Both were rushed to Wynn Hospital, where the woman, identified as Keyamonie Davis, 19, succumbed to her injuries. The male victim is currently in stable condition.

Keyamonie Davis, a recent graduate of Proctor High School and the mother of a young daughter, was described by her family as “a caring, trusting and beautiful soul.” In a statement, the family said, “We are extremely devastated by the loss of our loved one due to this senseless act of gun violence. We ask for continued prayers as the family navigates this difficult journey while screaming for justice to be promptly served.”

Later that morning, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police were alerted to another shooting on Howard Avenue, where several rounds were fired into a home while residents, including children, were asleep. No injuries were reported in this incident, but the home sustained damage from the gunfire.

The Utica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Major Crimes Unit are actively investigating these incidents to determine whether they are connected. Authorities have not identified any suspects.

Davis’s death marks a tragic escalation in a violent night that left a community mourning and police searching for answers.
