Knife-point robbery in Manchester ends with teen in custody
MANCHESTER, N.J. — A victim ran into a nearby home for safety after being confronted by a suspect armed with a knife during a robbery in the Pine Lake Park section of Manchester Township, officials said.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. on March 13 near Hannibal Street and Seventh Avenue.
The victim told officers the suspect approached while holding a knife and demanded money. The victim managed to escape and ran into a nearby residence.
Responding officers began searching the area and launched an investigation into the robbery.
Resources from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, including drone and K-9 units, assisted Manchester police during the search and investigation.
The continued investigation the following day determined a juvenile was responsible for the robbery. The suspect was taken into custody March 14 and charged with robbery and weapons offenses.
Officials said the juvenile is currently being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
State law prohibits the release of additional information about juveniles charged with delinquency offenses.
Authorities said the investigation involved the Manchester Police Department, the department’s Investigations Bureau, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
