Vineland students spread positivity through ‘Cumberland ROCKS!’ initiative

February 22, 2025

VINELAND, N.J. — Students at Sabater Elementary School recently took part in the “Cumberland ROCKS!” initiative, a community-focused project aimed at promoting social-emotional learning and civic pride.

The event encouraged students to paint rocks with positive messages and place them throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Organizers say the initiative helps young people express their creativity while fostering a deeper appreciation for Cumberland County.

“If citizens love where they live, they are more likely to take care of their community, as well as be ambassadors for it,” the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. The painted rocks, which depict scenes, hobbies, people, and other meaningful elements of the community, are displayed for others to enjoy.

The initiative is open to other local groups and individuals interested in participating. Residents are encouraged to paint their own rocks, share photos on social media with the hashtag #CCROCKS, and contact the county’s Community Justice Specialist to schedule future events.

Students are using art to celebrate their community, one painted rock at a time.
