Violent attack ends in crash as suspect flips car during getaway

Woman found slashed as suspect crashes fleeing scene in shocking North Carolina attack

HENDERSON COUNTY, NC — A brutal attack left a woman with severe head and neck injuries before the suspect’s attempted getaway ended in a violent crash off a mountain roadway, officials said.

The incident unfolded Saturday near Hutch Mountain Road, where deputies responding to a disturbance found the victim suffering from multiple lacerations.

Deputies immediately began rendering aid until EMS arrived and transported her to Mission Hospital.

As emergency crews worked to stabilize the victim, 911 dispatchers began receiving reports of a nearby crash — which investigators quickly determined was connected to the same incident.

Officials said the suspect attempted to flee the scene but lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve, sending it off the roadway and down an embankment.

Deputies responded to the crash site, pulled the suspect from the wreckage and turned him over to EMS. He was also transported to Mission Hospital for treatment.

Days later, after being released from the hospital, the suspect was taken into custody with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Authorities identified him as Jonathan Fenton, who now faces multiple serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault with a deadly weapon.

He is currently being held in the Henderson County Detention Center as the investigation continues.

Officials have not disclosed what led up to the violent encounter.
