Cumberland man accused of slamming victim into wall jailed without bond
CUMBERLAND, MD — A Cumberland man was jailed without bond after police said he struck a victim in the face, lifted the person by the neck and slammed them into a wall during a violent assault Wednesday night.
Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to Magnolia Court around 8:30 p.m. on May 6 for a reported assault in progress.
Investigators said the victim told officers that 48-year-old Robert Michael Washington assaulted them during the incident.
Police said officers observed injuries that matched the victim’s account at the scene.
Washington was arrested and transported to Central Booking before appearing before a District Court Commissioner.
He was later remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
Authorities charged Washington with first-degree child abuse causing severe physical injury, second-degree custodial child abuse, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
