Virginia man wins $100K on scratch-off while buying snacks

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – A routine trip to pick up snacks turned into a life-changing moment for Lixander Paniagua-Maravilla, who won $100,000 on a Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off ticket from the Virginia Lottery.

The Virginia Beach resident purchased the lucky ticket at the Food Lion at 5020 Ferrell Parkway. Upon realizing he had won the game’s top prize, he admitted he “screamed a little bit.”

Paniagua-Maravilla is the second person to claim a $100,000 top prize in the game, leaving one more grand prize still available. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,305,600, while the overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 4.28.

The Virginia Lottery, which directs all profits to K-12 education, contributed more than $39.7 million to Virginia Beach schools last fiscal year. Statewide, the Lottery raised more than $934 million for education in Fiscal Year 2024.
