Virginia Beach Police Shut Down I-264 and Independence Blvd Due to Ongoing Incident

August 23, 2024

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Authorities have closed Interstate 264 in both directions at exits 17A and 17B, affecting traffic around Independence Boulevard. The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) and Virginia State Police (VSP) are currently responding to an ongoing incident in the area.

In addition to the highway closure, Independence Boulevard is also shut down in both directions between Euclid Road and Baxter Road. The nature of the incident has not yet been disclosed, and it is unclear how long the closures will remain in effect.

“Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes,” the Virginia Beach Police Department stated in a social media post.

Motorists are advised to stay updated on the situation through local traffic reports and to follow instructions from authorities as the response continues.
