Virginia couple arrested after gun pointing road rage scare on Route 13

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – A Virginia man and woman were taken into custody Friday after an alleged road rage incident in Somerset County ended with a firearm being pointed at another driver, police said.

The suspects, identified as Kiana Chandler, 31, and Rendell Chandler, 31, both of Painter, Virginia, were stopped and arrested following a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed confrontation on southbound Route 13 near Revells Neck Road. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack responded to the scene shortly after 2:20 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of a blue Volkswagen, later identified as Kiana Chandler, allegedly “brake checked” another vehicle before pointing a handgun at the victim as he attempted to pass. The victim was not injured and immediately contacted authorities.

Police located the Volkswagen a short time later near the Virginia state line, where troopers and Pocomoke City Police conducted a high-risk traffic stop. A 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine was recovered from the vehicle. Both occupants were arrested without incident.

Kiana Chandler was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and related offenses. She was released on a $30,000 unsecured bond after appearing before a district court commissioner. Rendell Chandler, the passenger, was charged with handgun in vehicle and released on his own recognizance.

Key details from the incident:

  • The altercation occurred on Route 13 near Revells Neck Road.
  • A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered during the traffic stop.
  • Both suspects from Painter, Virginia, were released after processing.

Troopers from the Princess Anne Barrack and the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division continue to investigate. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact the Princess Anne Barrack at 443-260-3700. All callers may remain confidential.

State police officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to reducing gun-related incidents on Maryland highways, urging drivers to stay calm and report aggressive behavior immediately.
