FRONT ROYAL, Va. — A 24-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of his 1-year-old child, the Front Royal Police Department announced Wednesday.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on September 18, 2024, police officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of North Royal Avenue after receiving a report of a 1-year-old in cardiac arrest. Upon their arrival, medics from Warren County Fire and Rescue were already on the scene and preparing to transport the child to Warren Memorial Hospital.

Despite medical efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators from the Front Royal Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation into the incident.

The child’s father, Nathaniel Lee Edmonds, 24, was located by deputies from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and brought in for questioning. After a thorough investigation and consultation with the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Edmonds was charged with second-degree murder under Virginia Code 18.2-32.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, no further details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
