Virginia woman screams after tiny bet lands huge jackpot

Virginia mom wakes husband in shock after $2 lottery play turns into $244K jackpot

FERRUM, VA — A Franklin County woman playing a Virginia Lottery game before her children woke up struck a massive jackpot after a $2 wager suddenly turned into a $244K payday.

Kourtney Tracey of Ferrum said she was enjoying her usual quiet morning routine when she decided to play the Virginia Lottery online game Savanna Adventures.

Moments later, she hit a jackpot worth $244,938.

“I woke up my husband,” Tracey told Virginia Lottery officials. “I screen-shotted it four times because I thought, ‘There’s no way!’”

Tracey, who works as a contract painter, said she plans to use the winnings to take a trip.

Savanna Adventures is one of the Virginia Lottery’s online instant games available through the Virginia Lottery app and website.

The jackpot grows progressively as more players participate in the game.

Virginia Lottery officials said the odds of winning in Savanna Adventures are 1 in 4.76.

Lottery profits in Virginia help fund K-12 education statewide. Franklin County received more than $4.8 million in lottery funding for schools during the last fiscal year, according to lottery officials.
