Virginia woman visits her dad in Maryland and leaves with a $50K lottery jackpot

A quick stop at an Odenton grocery store during a family visit turned into a top-prize Maryland Lottery win.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A visit with her father in Maryland turned into an unforgettable trip for a Virginia woman after a quick stop at a grocery store in Odenton led to a $50K top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

The woman, who lives in Virginia’s Tidewater region, was visiting her father when she stopped at Lucky’s Superette, 1101 Odenton Road in Odenton, on June 12.

While at the store, she purchased a $2 Quick Pick Bonus Match 5 ticket, which gives players three chances to win.

After returning home to Virginia, she checked the ticket and discovered one of her three number combinations matched all five winning numbers, earning the game’s $50K top prize.

The winner said she was both nervous and excited after realizing she had won and immediately called her father to share the news.

A federal employee, she told Maryland Lottery officials she plans to use part of the prize to take a vacation, with most of the winnings going into savings.

Lucky’s Superette will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
