West Grove Man Faces Charges in Death of Toddler

June 28, 2024

WEST GROVE, PA – The Chester County District Attorney’s Office, along with Chester County Detectives, has announced the arrest of Enrique Lopez Gomez, 30, from West Grove, Pennsylvania, on charges related to the tragic death of a 21-month-old child. Gomez faces multiple charges including third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

The incident, which led to the arrest, occurred on June 24, 2024, with authorities receiving a 911 call around 10:58 p.m. reporting an unresponsive child at a residence on the 600 Block of Cope Road, Kennett Township. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene where they found the child’s mother exiting the residence, carrying the child wrapped in a blanket. The child, who was pulseless, exhibited white foam from his nose and mouth along with visible bruising on his body.

The toddler was immediately transported to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children but unfortunately could not be resuscitated. The child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, at 12:16 a.m. on June 25, 2024. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe described the circumstances as heartbreaking, highlighting the severity of the injuries inflicted under Gomez’s care. Following a joint investigation by local authorities, it was determined that the injuries resulting in the child’s death were allegedly caused by Gomez.

Magisterial District Judge Matthew Seavey has set bail for Gomez at $10,000,000 cash. This case has deeply affected the community, with ongoing investigations by the Chester County Detectives, Kennett Township Police Department, and Southern Chester County Police Department to further detail the events leading to the tragic incident.
