West New York Man Arrested on Multiple Charges Including Sexual Assault

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of Carlos Ruiz Castro by the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. The arrest took place on Friday, August 9, 2024, in Hackensack, concerning a sexual assault that occurred last month in West New York.

Ruiz Castro faces multiple charges: Aggravated Sexual Assault, Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and Simple Assault. These charges range from first to third degree crimes, along with a disorderly persons offense.

The incident leading to these charges occurred early on Saturday, July 27, 2024, when a 40-year-old woman reported that an unknown male had forcibly grabbed her by her hair and assaulted her in the vicinity of Hudson Avenue and 51st Street in West New York.

Following his arrest, Ruiz Castro was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to await his initial court appearance. The successful apprehension involved the collaborative efforts of the Special Victims Unit, the West New York Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service. Prosecutor Suarez has expressed gratitude to all law enforcement entities involved in the investigation and arrest.
