Toms River, NJ – The Ocean County Prosecutor, Bradley D. Billhimer, has announced the arrest of Edwin Tanner, 51, from Whiting. Tanner faces two charges related to failing to register as a sex offender, violating the requirements of Megan’s Law. Since 1994, this law mandates certain sex offenders to register with local police following address or employment changes. Non-compliance constitutes a third-degree crime.

Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Megan’s Law Squad’s investigation found Tanner relocated from Whiting to Robbinsville without proper registration or notification to law enforcement. Tanner, previously arrested for simple assault on August 11, was held in Atlantic County Jail. Upon his release on October 3, Tanner did not fulfill the registration requirement.

On October 16, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Megan’s Law Squad and Robbinsville Police Department arrested Tanner without incident. He was transported to Ocean County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing.
