MONTGOMERY, N.J. – Hundreds of Somerset County residents gathered Friday for the grand opening of a new Whole Foods Market at the Montgomery Promenade Shopping Center in Skillman, marking the completion of a major retail addition to Montgomery Township.
Somerset County Commissioner Sara Sooy joined township officials, local business owners and residents for the Aug. 21 opening at 40 Nevius Boulevard. The new Whole Foods Market encompasses approximately 45,000 square feet, according to the county.

“We are thrilled for our residents to finally see the completion of this project,” Sooy said. “The investment of Whole Foods Market into Montgomery Township provides residents with greater access to a variety of fresh, healthy, and locally sourced foods.”
Sooy said county officials were pleased Whole Foods selected Montgomery for the new supermarket and expect the investment to benefit the surrounding community.
“It was amazing to see the hundreds of residents eagerly waiting to shop and browse the shelves,” Sooy said.
The store anchors a prominent new retail destination serving Montgomery Township and surrounding communities in Somerset County.
New Store Takes Design Inspiration From Princeton
According to Whole Foods Market, the approximately 45,000-square-foot supermarket was designed with elements inspired by nearby Princeton.
The company also stocked the Montgomery location with a large selection of products sourced from the Northeast, giving shoppers access to regional products alongside Whole Foods Market’s broader grocery selection.
For Somerset County officials, the opening also represents an economic development investment. The county highlighted the project while promoting Somerset County as a destination for businesses looking to establish or expand operations.
“The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners is proud that Whole Foods selected this location in Montgomery, and we believe this investment will benefit the local community,” Sooy said.
