A domestic dispute turned rooftop standoff ends in arrest after early morning police response in Wilkes-Barre.

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A 47-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning following a domestic assault on Chapel Street that escalated into a rooftop standoff, Wilkes-Barre City Police said.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 4:05 a.m. on April 19 after receiving a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police spoke with the 46-year-old female victim who reported being struck multiple times with a closed fist by the defendant, identified as Junior Marte of Wilkes-Barre.

The victim told police the altercation began as a verbal dispute over the use of an ATM card and quickly turned physical. Officers observed signs of the alleged assault and attempted to take Marte into custody.

According to police, Marte attempted to avoid arrest by climbing onto the roof of the residence. After a brief period of negotiation, he voluntarily came down and was taken into custody without further incident.

Marte was transported to City Headquarters for processing and arraignment. No information was released regarding bail or potential charges filed following the arraignment.


Investigation continues after domestic dispute
