ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. – William Swanhart was ceremonially sworn in as Robbinsville Township’s new chief of police during a Township Council meeting Thursday evening, with local officials, family, and law enforcement colleagues in attendance.

The ceremony, officiated by Mayor David Fried, drew a large crowd, including officers from across New Jersey and as far as Colorado. The West Windsor Police Department Honor Guard presented the colors to mark the occasion.

Swanhart, who succeeds Chief Christopher Nitti following his retirement earlier this year, pledged to maintain the department’s commitment to community safety and responsiveness. “Chief Swanhart is looking forward to working closely with our community,” the Robbinsville Township Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

A longtime member of the Robbinsville Police Department, Swanhart brings decades of experience to his new role. His tenure will focus on strengthening ties between law enforcement and residents, ensuring accountability, and continuing to prioritize public safety.

The ceremony underscored the support of the law enforcement community and the Robbinsville residents who packed the room to celebrate the milestone.
