Woman assaulted, robbed in late-night attack in New York City

NEW YORK, N.Y. — A 21-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed late Sunday night while walking near 26 Jefferson Street, police said.

At approximately 11:37 p.m., an unidentified man approached the woman from behind, grabbed her, and pushed her to the ground. He then sexually assaulted her before forcibly taking her purse and fleeing northbound on Jefferson Street.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, approximately 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black winter coat with a fur hood, black pants, black and white sneakers, a baseball cap, and eyeglasses.

No injuries were reported. Authorities are seeking information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
