Early morning gunfire leaves homicide detectives searching for answers

BALTIMORE, MD — A woman was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound on a Baltimore street before dawn Friday after officers were called to investigate reported gunfire, launching a homicide investigation with the victim still unidentified.

Northern District patrol officers responded to the 3000 block of Ellerslie Avenue at approximately 3:25 a.m. for a report of shots being fired, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

Officers arrived and discovered an unidentified woman suffering from what police described as an apparent life-threatening gunshot wound.

Medics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Police did not provide an estimated age for the victim or release information about her identity.
