ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A woman riding a motorcycle was killed in a late-night crash Friday in Allentown, according to police.
Officers were called to the 1600 block of South 4th Street at about 11:35 p.m. for a crash involving one vehicle and one motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken by Allentown EMS to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police did not identify the woman in their Saturday morning announcement. No information was released about the driver of the other vehicle or what led to the collision.
Crash Under Investigation on South 4th Street
The Allentown Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatal crash.
Investigators are working with the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
Police did not say whether anyone else was injured.
The department also did not release the types of vehicles involved beyond identifying one as a motorcycle. There was no announcement of charges or citations Saturday morning.
The crash happened hours after communities across Pennsylvania and the country marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Police Say Investigation Remains Active
Traffic reconstruction investigations can involve examining the vehicles, roadway and physical evidence from the scene as investigators work to determine how a collision occurred.
Allentown police provided no preliminary determination about the cause of Friday night’s crash.
“There will be no further comment at this time related to this investigation,” the department said.
Additional information, including the motorcyclist’s identity, could be released by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office as the investigation continues.
