Woman Who Drove Off Virginia Highway Into Water Issued Reckless Driving Citation

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Early Saturday morning, Virginia State Police were called to a crash site on I-264 in Virginia Beach. A vehicle was reported traveling east at a high speed when it veered off the right side of the interstate.

The vehicle broke through the guardrail, crossed a chain link fence, and landed upright in a pond near Exit 15. The incident occurred at 5:48 AM.

The 20-year-old female driver, who was alone in the vehicle, managed to exit the car by herself. She was subsequently transported to Virginia Beach General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Virginia Beach Fire Department personnel, along with Swift Water Rescue divers, arrived at the scene to assist. Divers confirmed that no other individuals were in the vehicle and helped to remove it from the water.

Authorities have issued a reckless driving citation to the driver. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
