July 2, 2024

JERSEY CITY, NJ—At the 30th Angel of Hope Gala held on May 15 at the Liberty House, WWOR-TV/My9 was recognized with the Angel of Hope Award by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ). The award highlights the station’s dedicated efforts in raising awareness about the opioid epidemic in New Jersey.

Dan Bowens, the co-host of “Good Day Wake Up” on FOX 5, My9’s sister station, accepted the award on behalf of WWOR-TV/My9. Angelo Valente, the Executive Director of PDFNJ, commended the station for its proactive role in combating opioid abuse through impactful broadcasting and educational content. He noted that the station’s commitment has significantly contributed to enhancing public understanding of opioid-related dangers.

A notable figure in these efforts, Dan Bowens, a New Jersey native and six-time Emmy winner, has actively engaged in community service and educational initiatives about opioid use. His involvement extends beyond broadcasting to volunteering at schools and serving on the selection committee of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson & Union Counties.

The gala, organized by trustees Elaine and Steve Pozycki, serves as a celebration of the achievements in the fight against substance abuse and supports PDFNJ’s mission to foster drug-free lifestyles throughout New Jersey.
