Yoga teacher’s naked body found in driveway after alleged murder by SpaceX engineer husband

READFIELD, Maine — A 32-year-old yoga teacher was found dead in a driveway Wednesday morning, and her husband, a former SpaceX engineer, has been charged with her murder, according to Maine State Police.

Authorities responded to a 911 call at a home on Giles Road at approximately 10:02 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Margaux Whittemore, of Belfast, deceased outside the residence. Inside the home, police found 67-year-old Dorothy Whittemore, the suspect’s mother, suffering from injuries. She was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where her condition was initially critical but has since improved.

Samuel Whittemore, 34, fled the scene but was taken into custody nearby. He was first transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for evaluation before being booked into the Kennebec County Jail. He has been charged with murder.

The couple had been visiting Samuel Whittemore’s parents at the time of the incident. His father was not present during the attack but arrived shortly afterward. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta ruled Margaux Whittemore’s death a homicide following an autopsy Thursday morning.

The brutal killing of the Belfast yoga instructor has shocked the small Maine community.
