You Know You’re From Jersey When Beaches Have Custom Pizza Box Recycling Bins at the Shore

OCEAN CITY, NJ – Pizza boxes are a problem at the beach. At least in New Jersey, they are. One Jersey Shore town has found a creative solution to deal with beach pizza boxes and it’s working.

Officially, they are called pizza box disposal units, but in Ocean City, like many boardwalks where pizza is king, they are being utilized by visitors.

Pizza boxes are recyclable, but because they are stained with oil, grease and cheese, they present a problem for many municipalities’ recycling efforts. They have been in service since 2020.

City officials credit the pizza bins as having a positive impact on the amount of pizza box litter in the city.
