Germantown, MD — A set of numbers tied to family connections turned into a $50,000 lottery win for a retired postal worker who had been playing the same combination for years.
The Germantown woman won the prize after her chosen Pick 5 numbers — based on an out-of-state ZIP code — were drawn on February 12. She had consistently played the combination, often using a boxed format, with a previous top win of $5,000.
She claimed the $50,000 prize April 28, accompanied by her grandson.
Lottery officials said the winning ticket was purchased at Town Center Sunoco, located at 19738 Germantown Road. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for the sale.
The winner said the money will be used for home improvements, savings, and a planned trip to visit a close friend. She indicated she intends to continue playing the same numbers.
