PATERSON, N.J. — A 13-year-old was arrested Friday by detectives from the Paterson Police Department after being found in possession of a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine, according to a statement from the department.
This is the second firearm-related arrest for the juvenile, who was previously taken into custody last year after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
The police emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining public safety. “Public safety in Paterson is a shared responsibility, it takes more than just the police,” the department stated in a post on social media.
Details regarding the juvenile’s current charges were not immediately available.
