SCHENECTADY, NY — A 13-year-old boy was shot in the back Thursday night in Schenectady, leaving the community shaken and police searching for answers.

Officers responded around 8:18 p.m. to the 500 block of Summit Avenue after reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found the young victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided emergency aid before the teen was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Authorities said the victim is now in stable condition and recovering.

Police described the shooting as a serious and deeply troubling incident involving a child.
