Police find armed suspect crouching behind car after gunfire detected

BOSTON, MA — A woman was arrested after police responding to a ShotSpotter alert found her hiding behind a car while holding a firearm in Dorchester, authorities said.

Officers were called around 12:37 a.m. on March 20 to Bradlee Street after gunfire was detected.

When police arrived, they spotted a female suspect crouching behind a parked vehicle in an apparent attempt to conceal herself.

As officers approached, they saw she was holding a small handgun and quickly secured the weapon before taking her into custody.

Police later identified the firearm as a .25 caliber pistol.

Authorities also recovered three live rounds of ammunition and multiple small bags containing suspected drugs, including crack cocaine and marijuana.

Ballistic evidence was found at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Qualiah Johnson, 34, of Roxbury, faces multiple charges including unlawful firearm possession, discharging a firearm near a building, and drug offenses.
