Teen arrested after loaded handgun discovered in Dorchester basement
DORCHESTER, MA — A 14-year-old boy was arrested after Boston police discovered a loaded ghost gun inside a backpack while investigating a shooting that left a juvenile girl wounded in Dorchester, authorities said.
Officers assigned to District B-3 in Mattapan responded around 8:08 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, for reports of a person shot near Milton Avenue in Dorchester.
When officers arrived, they found a juvenile female suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police immediately began rendering aid until Boston EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, officers searched a nearby residence and encountered several juveniles inside.
Authorities said officers were directed to the basement, where two juvenile males were standing between the rear door and the basement entrance.
Inside a backpack worn by one of the juveniles, police allegedly discovered a loaded firearm.
Investigators identified the weapon as a Polymer 80-style black 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with six rounds of live ammunition.
The 14-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester was taken into custody.
Police said the teen is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
