JOPPATOWNE, Md. — A 15-year-old student was killed in a shooting at Joppatowne High School on Saturday afternoon, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and leading to the arrest of a suspect.

Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the school around 12:36 p.m. after receiving reports of an active assailant. A school resource officer, already on-site, responded immediately to the threat.

The victim, Warren Curtis Grant, 15, was found inside the school suffering from a gunshot wound. He was evacuated by fellow students and staff before being airlifted to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities, aided by multiple law enforcement agencies, secured the school and began a search for the suspect. Within minutes, officers arrested Jaylen Rushawn Prince, 16, a Joppatowne student, after receiving reports of a suspicious individual attempting to break into a nearby house.

The reunification of students with their families was completed by 3:28 p.m. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
