PHILADELPHIA, PA – After a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases, mostly the omicron “stealth” variant, the City of Philadelphia has told residents once again to mask up.

Effective April 18th, the City of Philadelphia will require masks to be worn indoors in restaurants, gyms, schools, retail stores and other indoor businesses and activities.

The re-masking comes just one month after the city dropped its mask mandate on March 2nd.

“ I suspect that this wave will be smaller than the one we saw in January,” Philadelphia Health Commissioner Cheryl Bettigole said of the new slight rise in omicron cases. “But if we wait to find out and to put our masks back on, we’ll have lost our chance to stop the wave.”
