Mother Attacked, Thwarts Attempted Abduction of Her Newborn Baby

GREENBELT, MD — A mother thwarted an attempted kidnapping of her newborn while walking on Edmonston Road last evening.

At 6:35 p.m., Greenbelt Police Department officers responded to the 9100 block of Edmonston Road regarding the kidnapping attempt. The mother reported walking her newborn in a stroller when two dark-colored vehicles approached her.

A tall black female with braids, accompanied by three other individuals, exited one of the vehicles and attempted to snatch her child.


The mother grabbed her child and ran, sustaining repeated punches.

The suspects quickly fled the area in their vehicles. Police conducted an extensive search but have not yet located the individuals involved.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity and remain vigilant. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify the suspects. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Greenbelt Police Department.

The mother and child did not suffer any life-threatening injuries but received medical attention for minor physical trauma.

Authorities call for public assistance in identifying the suspects and ask anyone with information to come forward.
