Snow, Freezing Rain, and Flooding to Impact North Jersey and New York City Overnight

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Tuesday for North Jersey and the New York City area. Residents should brace for a snowy night starting after 10 PM, with a low temperature around 27 degrees. Southwest winds will shift to light and variable, with a 90% chance of snow. Nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is possible.

Tuesday will see snow and freezing rain before 11 AM, followed by a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain between 11 AM and 1 PM. After 1 PM, rain and snow are likely. The high is expected near 34 degrees, with wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast winds of 7 to 11 mph will become northwest in the afternoon. The probability of precipitation is 80%. Little to no ice accumulation is expected, with new snow accumulation of about an inch.

Tuesday night will be cloudy early, then gradually clearing, with a low around 18 degrees. Wind chill values will range between 10 and 15. Northwest winds will blow at 10 to 14 mph.


In addition to snow and mixed precipitation, total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and light ice accumulations are anticipated.

A Flood Warning also continues for several rivers in New Jersey, including the Passaic River at Pine Brook, Little Falls, and above Singac, affecting Morris, Passaic, and Essex Counties. In vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline, up to 1/2 foot of inundation above ground level is expected. This warning also extends to Hudson, Eastern Essex, and Eastern Union Counties in New Jersey, and Southern Queens and Southern Nassau Counties in New York. Residents in these areas should stay alert and follow local advisories.
