New Jersey Braces for Rain Wind Coastal Flooding and Possible Snowfall on Monday

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Residents across New Jersey are gearing up for a wet and windy start to the week, as a significant weather system brings rain and breezy conditions across the state.

The forecast for today indicates rain, mainly before 1 PM, transitioning to drizzle with a possibility of continued rainfall after 1 PM. Temperatures are expected to hover near 43 degrees, with a brisk northeast wind blowing at 15 to 20 mph. Wind gusts could reach as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation stands at 100%, with new rainfall amounts anticipated to be between a half and three-quarters of an inch.

As we head into tonight, the weather remains unsettled with a likelihood of rain before 4 AM, followed by chances of both rain and snow. The cloudy night will see lows around 35 degrees and a north wind persisting around 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph. The probability of precipitation is 70%, but little to no snow accumulation is expected.

Monday’s outlook includes a chance of rain and snow, mainly before 8 AM. The day will remain cloudy with highs again near 43 degrees. The north wind continues at around 15 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 25 mph. The chance of precipitation drops to 30%, with negligible snow accumulation.

Significant impacts are anticipated, particularly in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Vulnerable roads may begin flooding, leading to partial or full road closures. Minor coastal flooding is expected along the shores of Barnegat Bay and Manahawkin Bay, especially near high tide times through Monday. This minor coastal flooding could linger into Tuesday.

Residents are advised to exercise caution. If travel is necessary, extra time should be allocated as some roads may be impassable. It’s important to avoid driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Preparations to protect flood-prone property should be made.
